12/10/2015 - Grand Opening of re-marked Solomon Northup Trail


Forum & Launch, visit 4 sites on newly re-marked Trail. 10 am – about 3 pm, or come at 1 pm for the afternoon session. Thursday, Dec 10, 2015

  • 10-11:30 am, Bunkie, Haas Auditorium, presentation on Solomon Northup by Dr. Jerry Sanson & Dr. Chris Stacey, both of LSUA History Dept. Remarks by direct descendants of Solomon Northup. Lunch on your own

  • 1:00 pm, Historic Bunkie Train Depot on Hwy 71 in downtown Bunkie (beautifully restored), LA Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne will unveil a plaque & make remarks. Group boards a bus to see 4 sites on the newly re-marked Solomon Northup Trail, ending at the Epps House at LSUA.

Alexandria/Pineville residents will need to follow the bus in their own cars as bus will return to Bunkie. Stops: Mary McCoy House (aka Live Oak, Norwood or Bubenzer House), Trinity Episcopal Church Cheneyville, the historic early Lamourie Locks on the bayou (hidden in the shrubbery off Hwy 71 so good to have a tour guide), ending at Epps House at LSUA (open for touring).
